Filmfans werden mehr als wissen, dass wir gerade mitten in der so genannten "awards season" sind, und im vergangenen Monat hat Ryan Gosling einen Golden Globe für seine Performance in dem von Kritikern gefeierten "La La Land" beim Tragen gefunden eine Vintage Rolex an seinem Handgelenk.
Nun hat der legendäre Schweizer Luxusuhrenhersteller angekündigt, erstmals die renommierten Academy Awards zu sponsern. Die 89 th Oscars finden am Dolby - Theater in Los Angeles am 27. Februar th 2017, und die Zeremonie wird von amerikanischem Fernsehmoderator Jimmy Kimmel gehostet werden.
Dies ist jedoch nicht das erste Engagement von Rolex bei den Oscars, da die Marke in den vergangenen Jahren als offizieller Sponsor für den Oscars Greenroom fungierte.
Located only feet away from the stage at the Dolby Theatre, the Oscars Greenroom is an exclusive bar open only to the stars who are either entering the stage to present an award, or exiting after presenting or collecting their Academy Award. The 2016 room was aptly decorated to resemble a Hollywood Hills home, while the Rolex influence was observed in some tastefully European touches designed by the brand’s Interior Design team based in Geneva.
Rolex watches have played important roles in countless iconic films across the years, and the history of the brand is intertwined with that of cinema thanks to powerful ambassadors such as legendary film director James Cameron. The Canadian auteur has fond memories of the Oscars, with his 1997 film “Titanic” winning 11 awards, tied for the most ever for a single film.
“Great movies are made in details, and not just a few details – every detail. Every character, every prop, and every sequence. A Rolex is not only a beautiful watch and a masterpiece of engineering, it’s very tough. It’s a watch that you can take into any environment and which can stand up to pressure. So, what you’re saying subliminally to the audience is: that character can take the pressure, too. He or she has what it takes.” Says Cameron on Rolex.
Speaking about Rolex sponsoring the Academy Awards, Arnaud Boetsch, the watchmaker’s Director of Communication & Image, had this to say:
